DESCRIPTION:European Literature Night (ELN) returns to New York for its 7th annual edition\, presenting an evening of voices from across Europe through discussions\, readings\, and performances. ELN 2025 is presented by members of the EUNIC NY cluster in collaboration with PEN America and is proudly hosted at the Ukrainian Institute of America. \nThursday\, October 23\, 2025 at 6 p.m.\n2 East 79th Street New York\, NY 10075 \nFree and open to the public with registration. \n  \nREGISTER\n  \nEleven award-winning voices. Eleven countries. One unforgettable literary journey. At ELN 2025\, celebrated authors from across Europe and beyond present the English translations of their latest books. This year’s program dives into three urgent themes shaping our world today: \n\n\nThe Past’s Presence – how seismic historical events echo in the lives of today’s characters \n\n\nAuthoritarianism / Writing War – the language of war and its moral\, political\, and social impact \n\n\nTies That Bind – how love\, desire\, and community weave our stories together \n\n\nFeatured Authors:\nAustria – Alois Hotschnig\nCzechia – Marek Torčík\nGermany – Khuê Pham\nLithuania – Gabija Grusaite\nThe Netherlands – Tobi Lakmaker\nPoland – Joanna Olczak-Ronikier\nPortugal – Katherine Vaz\nRomania – Liliana Corobca\nSwitzerland – Ariane Koch\nSweden – Jonas Hassen Khemiri\nUkraine – Artem Chapeye \nThis year\, Ukraine will be represented by acclaimed writer Artem Chapeye\, whose life and work embody the moral and existential challenges facing Ukraine today. Known for his novels\, essays\, and reportage that blend humor with social insight\, Chapeye brings a distinctly human voice to themes of identity\, resilience\, and the search for meaning amid conflict and change.
