SUMMARY:Film at the Institute: Scenographies of Chaos: Kira Muratova's Critical Filmmaking
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with Faktura 10\, Film at the Institute will host a panel discussion Kira Muratova: Scenographies of Chaos on the sidelines of the Film at Lincoln Center retrospective honoring Kira Muratova.  \nKira Muratova (1934–2018) was a formidable and independent Ukrainian film director whose work was challenged by state authorities throughout the Soviet period. In the late 1980s\, her films were uncensored and will be introduced to international audiences with this posthumous American retrospective from May 16–25 at Film at Lincoln Center\, in New York. \nAt the UIA\, the panel of scholars and critics will gather to speak about Muratova’s cinematographic sensibility with regard to time\, truth telling\, self-deceit\, ecology\, labor\, feminism\, psychology\, and politics\, and how the critical and philosophical implications of Muratova’s filmmaking can be a way to relaunch scholarship around her films and inscribe her historical legacy within modern film history \nKira Muratova: Scenographies of Chaos is curated by Marta Kuzma and Ivan Kozlenko\, in cooperation with The Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Centre\, Kyiv\, and co-organized by Madeline Whittle.
