DESCRIPTION:The Ukrainian Institute of America\npresents \nHeaven and Earth Rejoice!\n\nJoin the UIA for an Anglo-Ukrainian Christmas celebration\, featuring carols and Christmas stories from Ukraine\, the USA and the UK. Marika Kuzma directs the Ensemble Cherubim\, with guest artists Jonathan Lynn and Vira Slywotzky. \n\nGeneral admission – $30 per person \nTickets \n\n• The 16-voice chamber choir Ensemble Cherubim has received critical praise around the globe for bringing Slavic choral music to new life\, including a Grammy Award nomination for its recording of Bortniansky’s choral works on the Naxos Int’l. label. Led by Marika Kuzma\, the choir will sing holiday favorites by Bortniansky\, Britten\, Dawson\, Leontovich\, Niles\, Stetsenko\, Vaughan Williams\, Yakovchuk\, and others.\n\n• The Ukrainian-American choral director Marika Kuzma has led concerts at prestigious venues in Kyiv\, Lviv\, Montreal\, New York (St. Paul’s Chapel Trinity Wall Street and Weill Recital Hall)\, San Francisco\, Washington\, D. C.\, Vienna. She has collaborated with pre-eminent conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel\, Nicholas McGegan\, Kent Nagano\, Esa-Pekka Salonen\, and Mark Morris Dance Group. Her work has been applauded as “excellent” (The New York Times) and leaving “no musical marvel unexplored” (San Francisco Examiner).\n\n• Vira Slywotzky  has performed principal roles with Seattle Opera\, Chautauqua Opera\, Chelsea Opera and represented the US at the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition. She has appeared as an actor-narrator in venues such as Symphony Hall in Boston. At the event\, she will narrate a passage from Lesia Ukrainka’s Christmas Eve Sketches.\n\n•World-renowned British director Jonathan Lynn\, is  celebrated for his cult-classic films including My Cousin Vinny as well as writing the TV series Yes Minister and Yes\, Prime Minister. A celebrated actor\, he has appeared in various musicals\, plays\, TV series\, and films. At the event\, he will read excerpts from Dylan Thomas’s A Child’s Christmas in Wales.\n\nJoin these famous artists and your carol-loving friends at this festive celebration.
