DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome you for the opening concert of the 37th season of our “Music at the Institute” (MATI) chamber music program.  \nJoin us for an evening of music as we remember our dear friend and esteemed long-time member and benefactor\, Ulana Kebalo-George. Along with her husband\, Dr. Michael George\, Ulana was devoted patron of the arts and was especially fond of the Institute’s MATI series\, where she and Michael were frequent guests. We proudly pay tribute to Ulana and her family. \nThe concert will be followed by a reception with light refreshments. Advance registration is requested. \n\nPROGRAM\nJoseph Haydn String Quartet Op. 76 No. 3 “Emperor”\nMykola Lysenko String Quartet in D minor\nRobert Schumann Piano Quintet in E-flat major\, Op. 44 \n  \nTICKETS\n  \n$40 General Admission\n$30 UIA Friends\, Students\, Seniors\n$20 UIA Members \n  \nABOUT THE PERFORMERS \n\nPraised for their “lush intensity and bravado” (Third Coast Review)\, the Callisto Quartet has won top prizes at major competitions\, including the 2018 Fischoff Grand Prize and 2019 Banff Silver Medal\, along with honors from Bordeaux\, Melbourne\, and Wigmore Hall. Formed at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2016\, they have performed at Carnegie Hall\, the Kennedy Center\, Ravinia Festival\, and festivals across North America and Europe\, and have held residencies at Yale University\, the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel\, and Caramoor\, where they were the first quartet to perform all six Bartók quartets. Dedicated educators\, they teach at Chamber Music Connection in Columbus\, Ohio\, joined Rocky Ridge Music as Faculty Quartet in Residence in 2025\, and developed the widely adopted “Chamber Music Deconstructed” curriculum\, shaping chamber music pedagogy nationwide. \n  \nPianist Philip Edward Fisher is acclaimed for his refined style and versatility\, performing across Europe\, Asia\, Africa\, and the Americas. His recordings include Handel’s Keyboard Suites (Naxos) and Piano Works by “The Mighty Handful” (Chandos)\, both widely praised\, as well as the critically acclaimed complete solo piano works of John Corigliano. Fisher has appeared as a concerto soloist with major orchestras including the Royal Scottish National Orchestra\, Copenhagen Philharmonic\, Tampere Philharmonic\, and Cabrillo Festival Orchestra\, working with leading conductors such as Hannu Lintu\, David Alan Miller\, and Sebastian Lang-Lessing. A graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Juilliard School\, he received the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Julius Isserlis Scholarship and was named an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music in 2016. \n  \nABOUT MUSIC AT THE INSTITUTE (MATI) \nIn its 37th season\, MATI presents world-class musicians from Ukraine\, Europe and the US\, performing in the unique setting of the concert hall in the Ukrainian Institute of America’s historic\, landmark building. Currently under the leadership of Artistic Director\, Solomiya Ivakhiv\, the MATI series presents audiences with a selection of well-known chamber music repertoire and introduces lesser-known as well as established works by Ukrainian composers. Over its history\, MATI has commissioned compositions by emerging and recognized Ukrainian composers\, in celebration or commemoration of milestones in Ukrainian and the Institute’s history.
