DESCRIPTION:Roman Luchuk: Paintings of the Carpathian Mountain Landscape \nSeptember 29 – October 22\, 2017 \nReception for the artist: Friday\, September 29 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM \nPlease RSVP to attend. \nArt at the Institute is pleased to welcome the Fall 2017 season with an exhibition of thirty expressionist landscape paintings by Roman Luchuk. Curated by Walter Hoydysh\, PhD\, this is the artist’s first solo exhibition in the United States. \nEach of Roman Luchuk’s canvases evokes the splendor and energy of his native Carpathian Mountains in seductive compositions that exude a lifelong love for the mysteries of the Hutsul landscape. His iconic images express instinctive emotional experiences rather than impressions of the physical world. He does this through an extravagant use of paint and color. Expansive stillness and silence of the pastoral are interrupted by sudden outbursts of life and vitality changing from one mood to another. \nThese paintings represent only vaguely suggested realism to domestic and ecclesiastical backdrops while retaining an unmistakable link with the countryside landscape. This is the essence of the art of Luchuk’s painting: creating through color and form a new and irresistible personal reality which reflects the innermost being of the artist running parallel with the reality outside. \nRoman Luchuk was born in Kosiv\, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast\, in western Ukraine. He studied painting at the Kosiv College of Applied and Decorative Art and interior design at the Lviv National Academy of Art. His paintings have been included in numerous group and solo exhibitions throughout Ukraine.
