Oleh Denysenko: Etchings
November 10 – 29, 2017
Reception for the artist: Friday, November 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM

Art at the Institute is pleased to present a special exhibition of forty original prints by Leopolitan artist Oleh Denysenko, displaying archetypal works from his graphic oeuvre over the past three decades. Curated by Walter Hoydysh, PhD, this exhibition marks the artist’s second solo showing with The Ukrainian Institute of America.

A prolific artist practiced in the disciplines of painting, sculpture, calligraphy, and book illustration, Mr. Denysenko is most recognized, internationally, for his intricate etchings printed on paper. An astoundingly inventive draftsman, and, due to years of studying the moralizing works of Northern European art luminaries such as Bosch, Bruegel, Cranash and Dürer, among others, Denysenko developed an original framework and spatial base around which fantastical and alchemically complex stories flourish.

Born in Lviv, Ukraine, Oleh Denysenko concentrated in graphics while studying at the National Academy of Printing (Lviv). He holds over thirty international prizes in printmaking, and has exhibited internationally. His artworks are housed numerous private and institutional collections including: The Fritisgarden Susekullen (Sweden), Royal Palace (Sweden), Museum of Contemporary Graphic Art (Norway), Ostrow Wielkopolski Museum (Poland), and Museum of Printing Tipoteka Italiana (Italy). He is an active member of the Union of Ukrainian Artists and the Academic Senate of the International Academy of Modern Art (Rome, Italy). Mr. Denysenko works and lives in Lviv.
