The documentary offers a gripping, behind-the-scenes look at Jens Stoltenberg‘s final year as NATO Secretary General. With unprecedented access to the inner sanctums of global power, the film chronicles Stoltenberg’s relentless diplomatic efforts to maintain alliance unity in the face of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Witness high-stakes negotiations and private moments with world leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and others, as Stoltenberg works to uphold the pivotal promise to stand by Ukraine for “as long as it takes.”

Facing War has been officially shortlisted by the Norwegian Oscar Committee as one of three films submitted for consideration for the 2026 Academy Awards in the category of Best Documentary Feature Film. 

Praised by The Guardian with 4 out of 5 stars, the documentary is “a compelling insight into modern diplomacy.” The film’s powerful impact has been recognized with the Grand Jury Documentary Award for Best Documentary at The Hague Movies that Matter Festival and earned a Special Mention for Journalistic Relevance at DocsBarcelona. It has also been an official selection for prestigious honors, receiving nominations for the Vaclav Havel Special Award at the Prague One World Film Festival, the top CPH:DOX Award at its namesake festival, and the Best Documentary award at DocsBarcelona.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Tommy Gulliksen is a Norwegian film director who studied arts and journalism at Oslo University College. He is best known for his award-winning documentary En liten øy i verden (2011), the series Da vi styrte landet (2017), the award-winning documentaries Liberation Day (2016) and War of Art (2019). Gulliksen is co-founder of the Norwegian production company DOX Division.

THE PRODUCERS
Anne Marte Blindheim (b. 1980) is a Norwegian journalist / writer / producer with 25 years of experience from news and political journalism, before venturing into documentary film making. She focuses on politics, social and environmental issues. Her film credits include the award winning series Da vi styrte landet (2017), Rahčan (2022), Det hvite sinnet (2023).

Danielle Turkov-Wilson (b. 1987) is the founder and CEO of Think-Film Impact Production. Working at the confluence of art and policy, Think-Film and its partners bring lasting change to global social issues. Danielle’ s film credits include Executive Producer and Impact Producer Black Box Diaries (Oscar and Bafta nominee 2025), The End (Joshua Oppenheimer, Tilda Swinton), Io Capitano (Oscar nominee 2024), Navalny (Oscar and Bafta winner 2023), The Territory (Emmy and Peabody winner 2023).
