Learn to Sing the Ukrainian National Anthem!

Join us online for an opportunity to learn the Ukrainian National Anthem, in advance of the upcoming Summer Olympic Games, at which Ukrainian athletes are expected to compete. We salute those brave sportsmen and sportswomen who, despite the ongoing brutal war, train relentlessly to exhibit on the world stage the incredible tenacity and resilience of the Ukrainian people. We wish each of these stars much strength of body, mind and spirit as they compete. We look forward to the opportunity to sing the Ukrainian National Anthem as they triumph in the upcoming Games.

The idea for this program came from our member, Kristine Alpi, who attended the recent concert at the UIA by Cultural Forces of Ukraine. At the end of the performance by five Ukrainian musicians who currently serve their country as soldiers, guests raised their voices in unison to sing the Ukrainian hymn. Kristine noticed that not all attendees could participate in this deeply moving tribute because they were not familiar with the lyrics. So she proposed the idea for a virtual sing-along and with her generous support, we are able to offer this session.

The lesson will be led by Ukrainian-American soprano, Teryn Kuzma. Hailed as “silvery-toned” by Opera News, Teryn is a versatile performer of classical, contemporary, musical theater, and folk repertoire. She has a deep passion for performing contemporary works, and uncommon Eastern European opera and art song. In addition to her singing credits, Teryn is an accomplished instrumentalist on the 55-stringed Ukrainian bandura and is actively engaged in the performance and study of Ukrainian folk music. We are thrilled to have Teryn lead our online program.
