The Ukrainian Institute of America is pleased to partner with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to host this timely and important event. The expert discussion will address the challenges the Ukrainian cultural heritage is facing as a result of Russia’s full-scale aggression, including the destruction and damage of cultural heritage, the illegal transfer and appropriation of cultural property, and Russia’s systematic attempts to appropriate Ukrainian history and culture.
The discussion will also examine the documentation of these crimes, international mechanisms for the protection of cultural heritage, and the broader implications of attacks on cultural property for Ukraine’s history, identity, and sovereignty.
