EUROPEAN LITERATURE NIGHT
Wednesday, October 28, 2026 | 6:00 PM
Ukrainian Institute of America
For one evening, New York becomes a meeting place for some of Europe’s most compelling literary voices. European Literature Night, an annual celebration of contemporary European literature, brings together authors, translators, publishers, and readers to discover new writing from across the continent. Through literature in translation, the event opens a window onto different cultures, histories, and perspectives, connecting European writers with American audiences.
Presented by Czech Center New York and EUNIC New York, European Literature Night 2026 brings together writers from 14 European countries for an evening of readings, conversations, and cultural exchange. At the Ukrainian Institute, audiences can discover Ukrainian literature alongside voices from across Europe and explore the stories that connect us across languages and borders.

About the Author and Book
Yuri Andrukhovych is a master stylist of contemporary Ukrainian literature. Born in Stanislav, Ukraine, in 1960, he is a novelist, poet, and essayist whose work champions artistic freedom. In the 1980s, he cofounded the performance group Bu-Ba-Bu, which challenged socialist realism. His honors include the Hannah Arendt Prize and the Heinrich Heine Prize.
At European Literature Night 2026, translator Mark Andryczyk presents Andrukhovych’s Radio Night, published in English by New York Review Books (NYRB). The novel follows Yosyp Rotsky, a legendary pianist who played at the barricades during a revolution in his long-oppressed country. Now in exile and implicated in the dictator’s death, Rotsky is hunted by a shadowy regime and an insatiable mob. Alongside his wise raven companion, Edgar, he navigates updated mazes of the past and the hazards of a social media-saturated world, while his mysterious friend Servus appears at the most—and least—opportune moments. Steeped in music and accompanied by a playlist, Radio Night is a wild, theatrical journey through a world in upheaval, caught between rebirth and apocalypse, loyalty and betrayal, heaven and hell. Radio Night will be published by NYRB on November 24, 2026.
