JACQUES HNIZDOVSKY
THE METRINKO COLLECTION
December 18, 2014 – January 17, 2015
Exhibit hours are Tuesday – Sunday 12 to 6 p.m.
Jacques Hnizdovsky, largely credited with the current resurgence and popularity of printmaking, was born in Ukraine nearly 100 years ago. The youngest of seven children, Jacques was the only one in his family that emigrated to the west.
Jacques Hnizdovsky studied fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw for two semesters, then transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. He worked from a human model and had a great interest in portraiture. He also had a great interest in the woodcuts of Dürer and the Japanese Ukiyo-e artists. Jacques Hnizdovsky was self-taught in the art of printmaking, yet would come to be known as one of the world’s most noted printmakers.
