In July 2024, theater producer Don Frantz along with Viktoriya Nemchenko, leading actress of the state theater in Vinnytsia, Ukraine, launched a groundbreaking project—Uncovered Scenes from Ukraine. This initiative paired 30 American playwrights with Ukrainian residents for online interviews, inspiring the creation of original short plays based on real-life experiences.
To recognize UNESCO’s 62nd annual World Theater Day, we are proud to present a 90-minute staged reading of six selected plays. Performed without set, lights, or costumes, these readings allow the raw emotion and authenticity of the stories to shine. Through these voices, we aim to share a universal message of resilience, survival, and the human cost of war.

The Ukrainian Institute of America is grateful to Town Square Productions for their artistic and financial support of this project, including stipends for directors, actors, production staff, and the six selected playwrights.
This event is free and open to the public. Your donations to help underwrite this project are appreciated. Join us for this powerful theatrical experience as we reveal the voices and stories of Ukraine.
