Unveiling of a Multilingual Plaque Honoring Dr. Raphael Lemkin

The Ukrainian Institute of America and the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Foundation will be unveiling a multilingual plaque (English, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Yiddish) honouring Dr Raphael Lemkin, the “father of the UN Genocide Convention,” specifically in reference to the speech he gave in New York City (20 September 1953) acknowledging the famine of 1932-33 as a Soviet genocide.

Conserving Ukraine’s Cultural Heritage

Two conservators, Olha Yarema Wynar of the Metropolitan Museum Textile Conservation Department and Yuri Yanchyshyn of Period Furniture Conservation visited Ukraine on a Fulbright, introducing textile and wooden objects conservation approaches and techniques at various Ukrainian institutions. This presentation will focus on their experiences, while highlighting the little known art of Ukraine, and outline perspectives for preserving it for the future.

Film Screening and Book Presentation

Jews and Ukrainians, a Talk by Paul Robert Magocsi

There is much that Ukrainians do not know about Jews and that Jews do not know about Ukrainians. Professor Paul Robert Magocsi will shed new light on controversial issues in Ukrainian-Jewish relations, including questions of anti-Semitism, and argue that cultural and historical experiences not only divided ethnic Ukrainians and Jews, but also brought them together.
